What happened.....

Randy was diagnosed with a brain tumor exactly 4 years ago. While the tumor was benign, it was quite large and the surgery left him with some disabilities which were exacerbated as a passenger in a rear-end collision a short time later.

March of 2008, Randy moved from his apartment near midway airport to live in a cabin in the woods of Wisconsin near the Dells. Randy would communicate with family and friends via daily text messages...and seemed to be holding his own with the assistance of a few kind hearted people from Adams County that checked in on him routinely.

A few days after his 48th birthday on February 27th, Randy experienced tooth abscess, fever and weakness. He went to the hospital to clear the abscess but the doctors felt there was something else at work. Additional testing suggested that scar tissue was forming in the previous surgical site. He endured another brain surgery the first week of March, which unfortunately revealed a progressive problem that could not be corrected.

Randy recovered from the surgery but remained too weak to be released from the hospital until mid July. A transfer to health care facility in Kenosha was made just last week. He seemed comfortable with the surroundings and continued to receive physical therapy with his goal of returning to the cabin intact.

Randy passed away in his sleep sometime after 5am, Sunday, July 26, 2009.
